The Baroque Castle and its wonderful park are a point of attraction for local residents as well as for tourists. The former summer residence of the Wittelsbach family today houses the “Gallery of Beauties” of King Ludwig I. with 36 portraits of women who once played an important role in his life. In the Marstallmuseum (Royal Stables museum) the pompous coaches and riding gear of the Royal families are displayed, and the porcelain collection Bäuml shows exhibits from the world-famous Nymphenburg porcelain factory, dating from its foundation in 1747 to the 20th century. Nobody should leave Nymphenburg without a walk through the magnificent park with its four small castles: the “Amalienburg”, a unique masterpiece of Rococo architecture, the “Badenburg”, a small castle with Europe’s first heated bath, the “Magdalenenklause”, an artificial ruin, and the “Pagodenburg”, a Chinese-style tea house. The Botanical Gardens their glass houses are adjacent to the park.
