Museen
With almost 50 national, municipal and private collections Munich has the second highest number of museums in Gemany, after Berlin. The foundation for this was laid by the Bavarian King Ludwig I, with his passion for art. He was the creator of world-famous museums such as the Glyptothek, the Old and the New Art Galleries. The most important museums are all within easy walking distance of each other, around the Königsplatz and along the Prinzregentenstraße. Theater and Opera
With more than 100 playhouses, Munich has almost more theatres than any other city in Germany. Their popularity means, though, that unfortunately most of the new productions and premieres at the Opera and the “Kammerspiele” theatre are fully booked months in advance. However some of the smaller theatres constitute a real alternative, with their excellent programs. Cabaret and satirical theatre performances are also well worth a visit. The well-known German TV Comedians Gerhard Polt, Bruno Jonas, Ottfried Fischer and Dieter Hildebrandt all started their careers as comedians in Munich. More...
